About Fresnel Lights
Soft-edged washlight for theatre, studio and broadcast work, built around Chauvet Professional’s Ovation LED Fresnel range in warm white and full-colour versions.
The choice is colour engine first. The Ovation F-145WW runs a 70W warm white LED that Chauvet rates as comparable to a 650W tungsten 6-inch Fresnel, with a CRI of 97 and a motorised 16 to 65 degree zoom, so it drops into a tungsten rig without the lamp replacement cycle or the heat load. The FC fixtures swap fixed white for a five-colour RGBAL engine, red, green, blue, amber and lime, mixing full colour and variable white from 2800K to 6500K: the F-415FC covers a 14 to 68 degree zoom range, while the F-915FC pushes an 89-LED engine through a motorised 17 to 85 degree zoom for bigger spaces and longer throws.
All three share the details that matter on a quiet stage: 16-bit dimming for smooth fades, adjustable PWM on the full-colour models for flicker-free camera work, near-silent convection cooling with no fan noise to leak into microphones, and DMX control alongside onboard dials. The stepped lens still does what it always did, giving a soft blendable beam that overlaps invisibly with its neighbours, which is why the format keeps its grip on theatre wash duty, and the familiar Fresnel focus and barn door workflow carries straight over from tungsten. Matching Fresnel sizes to throw distances is the kind of question we answer daily.
