About USB Microphones

Podcast, streaming and desktop recording microphones that connect straight over USB: Shure’s MV6, MV7+ and MV88+ ranges, the Sennheiser Profile with its matching boom arm and streaming set, and the Shure MVi interface for putting a standard XLR microphone onto a USB bus.

Room, not resolution, decides the right choice. Dynamic USB mics such as the MV6 and MV7+ reject untreated-room reverb and keyboard clatter far better than condensers, which makes them the safer call for home studios and offices; condenser designs like the Profile and the stereo MV88+ give more detail in controlled spaces. Consider mounting next: a boom arm clears desk space and cuts thump transmitted through the furniture, and the Profile is sold both alone and as a streaming set with the arm included. If a client already owns XLR microphones, the MVi interface is often the smarter buy than duplicating them in USB form. The MV6, MV7+ and Profile all connect over USB-C.
