About Safety Wire

Every fixture flown overhead needs a rated secondary suspension, and this range covers Equinox safety wires from 30cm to 100cm in stainless steel, black stainless and PVC-coated finishes, with rated loads of 25kg and 50kg to suit anything from a small LED par to a heavy moving head.

Choose the rating first: the safety wire’s stated load must exceed the weight of the fixture plus any accessories hanging with it. Then pick a length that keeps the potential drop as short as practical; a bond that is too long lets a falling fixture build real momentum before it snatches tight, so use the shortest wire that still loops comfortably around the truss chord and the fixture’s attachment point. Black stainless versions disappear against dark truss in theatres and clubs, while PVC-coated wires protect painted or polished tube from scuffing. Fit the wire around a structural part of the fixture, never a handle or an adjustment knob, and clip back with the gate fully closed.

Safety bonds work hard in a busy hire stock, so inspect for kinks, broken strands and damaged gates before every use and retire anything suspect. Stage Supply carries the common lengths and ratings together, which makes it straightforward to bond a whole rig consistently rather than from whatever is left in the workshop box.
