About Communications
Production comms gear for show callers, camera operators, commentary positions and stage management, centred on intercom and broadcast headsets from Shure, Sennheiser and Audio Technica. The range runs from Shure’s BRH single and dual-sided intercom headsets through to Sennheiser’s HMD and HME broadcast sets, with replacement cables and spares held under Accessories.
Single-sided or dual-sided is the first decision: show callers and camera operators usually want one ear open to the room, while commentary booths and loud truck environments favour both ears covered. Microphone type matters too, dynamic capsules such as the HMD series reject spill better on loud events, while condenser versions like the HME 27 give a more open broadcast sound. Watch the cabling closely, several BRH models ship deliberately without a cable so one headset can terminate in 4-pin or 5-pin XLR to suit different intercom beltpacks, and ordering the wrong termination means nothing plugs in on the night.
Most of this hardware pairs with partyline and matrix intercom systems already installed in venues and OB trucks, and it is worth confirming impedance and wiring against your existing beltpacks before ordering.
